Fatboy Slim's latest, Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars, is phenomenal.
I picked it up about a month or so ago when it first came out, and ran it through a bit, but didn't take to it much. I'm not on my third spin through and I must say, I'm very impressed.
I read an interview with the man himself in Spin Magazine last night, and decided to touch the album again to see what it did for me.
It's very different from his usual work, if by usual you mean You've Come a Long Way, Baby.
But if you drift along the CD aisles and pick up a copy of The Roots of Norman Cook and give that a twirl, you will notice some of the old style coming back.
It's still his style. Instantly recognizable, but there's something fresh and new about it. I can't even describe the newer style.
Also, the album's new single, Ya Mama (insert obvious yourMOM reference) is totally a dancefloor packer.
In retrospect, I don't know when I became a Rolling Stone CD reviewer, and it sort of makes me sick that I just said "dancefloor" packer. But what can I go? Fatboy Slim's last album is in my top 20 favorites of all time, and I think Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars is well on its way next to it.
Go buy it. If you do nothing else in your life, you lazy piece of shit, listen to me.
I know what I'm talking about.

For those of you who have not heard, there is a new open source program called gnutella. Its just like napster, but much better.
- There are no central servers. everyone is connected to everyone else. Its like a spider web. Because of this, there is no one company to prosecute, so it can't be taken down.
- I'm connected to over 3,500 hosts (computers) right now with 377,000 files at my disposal.
- You can share/trade all sorts of different files. not just mp3s.
- Its open source. No backdoors or anything. Made originally by the guys at winamp.com but released to the public for modifying/fixing.
- Napster is expected to lose in court and will likely get shut down. this is a wonderful replacement.

went to jillians the other night, to play pool. there was an hour wait, so steve and i walked around the place, looking for somewhere to sit. then we saw the biggest pool table we've ever seen.
the thing was seriously 11 feet long. there was someone playing some sort of billiards on it with the wrong number of balls, and steve and i watched. as we watched, the person (who's name i don't remember) invited steve to come over and play. so we did.
turns out that he was playing snooker which turns out to be the longest possible game of billiards to play.
i don't want to explain the rules right now, but it's pretty safe to say that i have a new challenge: to get good at snooker.
the wierdest part was that we were there for two and a half hours after the guy left, and we only played two games. two games! it takes sooooo much concentration to play on a table that's that long, and who's pockets are sooooo small, that it was...

I saw the most random movie last night, called Bufallo '66.
It has Christina Ricci in it, and some other guy I can't remember the name of. It's basically about this guy who ended up going to jail because he owed a shitload of money off of a bet he could have paid. So they sent him to jail to take the fall for one of their guys, to pay the debt.
He obviously a little bitter.
I caught the movie in a little after it started, so it took me a minute to catch the basic premise... and he went to the bathroom a lot. Like a real lot. And he was always antsy before he went. I had the feeling he had a disease or something, since he looked kind of sick, but couldn't pinpoint it and the movie didn't tell me.
I think I'll rent it sometime.
Nevertheless.. it was actually a good movie. Had a lot of weird artsy shots and camera angles in it, but that sort of stuff is cool once you realize that it's going to be abound in a certain movie.
I'd give it three and a half stars, on a five star scale. The plot kept me watching and the ending was really good.
