two october's ago, i was in the hopeless search of a car. i knew what i wanted, i just couldn't find the exact car that i wanted. i had this vision of a GTI, but it was an unusual color, and no-one thought that it would sell, so no one ordered it.

finally, a hundred phone calls later, someone finally called me back who didn't want to sell me something that i didn't want. he actually had found the car that i wanted.the car. but he wasn't like the rest of the car dealers who called me back, trying to sell me the next model up. the thing was that the next model up had two more cylinders, but, the thing was that those two cylinders cost an additional six grand. and i wasn't about to pay an extra six grand for something that was probably going to get me that one more speeding ticket that i really didn't need.

oh yeah. didn't i mention that? i've got six strikes against me (and one in new york that they don't know of). one more, and my license dissapears for six months. i had a small problem when i was younger, a small speeding and not stopping problem. but that's another story all together.

anyways, the guy who found the car had the unfortunate problem of being located on the cape. and i lived near the city. which meant that the dealer was a ways away from me. so i took the day off, grabbed a friend, jumped in the borrowed beater that i was driving at the time, and zoomed my way to the cape.

it was the car of my dreams. it was what i always wanted. or something like that. the coolest part was the dealer himself. or the salesman, whatever he was. he wasn't like those other salesman you talk to. the ones always trying to get you to upgrade to the next model. the ones trying to make the most off of the sale. he was actaully nice. we took the car for a test drive, and it was the longest test drive that i had taken. we took it down the road, one of those classic hilly turney roads, the ones that you always want to take a test drive on.

and the dash glowed neon blue. neon blue and magenta. it was sweet. and i was sold. and i got the car. it was one of the best times of my life. and the whole time, the dealer / salesman guy was the coolest.

about four months ago, jackie was looking for a car. one that she almost had her heart set on was a "suede-silver" cabrio. we followed the same path that i had followed a year earlier. and then i got the bright idea, and thought to call my good buddy on the cape.

so i called, and he was more than happy to help. he didn't have what we were looking for, but he assured me that he'd keep me in mind. we kept looking, never found it, looked at a few other cars, but never got anything.

then the whole moving thing came up, and we forgot about the car thing completely. the move got fcuked, and then ended up happening anyways. now, we're in cali. now, she's looking for a car again, so that she doesn't have to steal my car anymore. she had actually found five of the cars that she wanted. all within her price range.

so who magically calls this morning? the cape dealer. and someone who he has sold the car that jackie was looking for six years earlier. they guy had come back, traded his car in for a new one. so he calls asking if i was still looking for a car? i had to tell him about the move, and how strange it was that he was calling just as we were on the look again.

his name was phil maker. of cape cod volkswagen. if you're looking for a vw, and you live anywhere near the cape, i suggest you give him a call.

he's the man when it comes to finding you the car that you want.
