i really feel like an ass right now.

i went out of my way to get a server and host all of my friends on it. it went good for a while. and then, many things happened that were out of my control. there was nothing that i could do, i was completely hepless.

in the beginning, i had the server on a dsl line in my apartment in cambridge. that went fine for a while, but then i had to move. a friend offered to host machine on his dsl line, and i did. but they had the worst connectivity in the world. then the harddrive died. i resurrected what i could, but i had to rebuild most of it. i had to go buy a new harddrive, and because of all the complications that went with hosting the machine at a house that i didn't have 24x7 access to, i moved it to the cablemodem in my new apartment. which was fine. untili decided to move out. then i had to move the machine, and all of it's 27 domains back to the bad-connectivity dsl line.

then, two weeks later, someone was using my box as a spam-relay. they sent so much mail that it hosed the dsl line and they had to take my machine out of the routing table, just so that they could get online. i had to wait two days for eric to get back from vacation to fix the mail problem, and then i waited almost a week (while the machine was on, but not connected) until they added me back into the routing table (today).

to everyone whom i'm hosting :: i'm so sorry. i never meaned for any of this to happen. the server's moving (again) to an actual datacenter to live on an actual webserver (not some desktop that i installed linux on) and have actual connectivity. this should be happening this week. but, then again with my luck, it won't even happen before xmas.
